Cooking the Perfect Steak at Home

We are big fans of a good steak here at Blank Clothing and are always on the lookout for tips on how to get restaurant perfectionist at home. We got some tips from one of our favourite steakhouses in Melbourne, Steers Bar & Grill.

First. It is all about preparation. Allow them to come close to room temperature for roughly 30mins or so from the fridge. The help to create an even and faster cooking time. Season steak with salt only.

Next you need a good quality heavy fry pan on a medium heat. Do not let it get smoking hot or the steak will get scorched.

Add oil to your pan, and then place the steaks; they should be sizzling nicely.

After a couple minutes, turn the steaks and use a spoon to baste them with its own oils from the pan, for a more even cook.

Turn them on their sides and repeat the basting until all the sides are evenly caramelised and approaching your preferred doneness.

Remove the steaks from your pan and place them on a rack to rest for approximately 10mins. The centre of the meat should be room temperature. This allows the juices to be reabsorbed into the beef.

To serve, season the steak with salt and pepper and return the beef to the pan to let the outside heat up nicely.

That's it!
